Florida FIRST Advocacy

Advocacy is the ongoing process of building relationships. Elected officials need to know the value of experiences like FIRST programs for equipping the next generation of Florida’s leaders.

The focus of the FlRST Florida Advocacy Conference is on grassroots strategies to build positive relationships with decision makers, impacting increased availability of FIRST, particularly in underserved populations. A partnership with the Florida Commission on the Status of Women's LEAD Summit will connect FIRST students to a broad coalition of leaders from organizations across the state of Florida while in Tallahassee. The goal is to empower students to participate effectively in the legislative process.

Modeled after the FIRST National Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC, the Florida FIRST Advocacy Conference will equip students to communicate effectively with their elected representatives. The organizers, RISE Robotics from Lakeland Christian School, were the only Florida team to participate in the FIRST National Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC in the summer of 2018. Team RISE was inspired to bring training back to Florida to share with other FIRST teams.
