Teams RISE & Ascend
Competitive robotics teams allow middle and high school students to design, build, code, and compete robots against other teams in Florida and beyond.
Team RISE 7719 and Team Ascend 14699 compete and in one of FIRST® Tech Challenge's most aggressive leagues. The acronym FIRST® represents the phrase, "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology". Sometimes called "a varsity sport for the mind," robotics team members try out, are coached and receive specialized training, and have to demonstrate a dedicated work ethic for months at a time to make competitions successful.
Participants cultivate technical expertise and leadership through skill-development in some of the following areas:
Strategic planning and time management
Mechanical and electrical engineering principles
Documentation and inventory
Integrating and troubleshooting complex systems
Outreach, communication, and service to other teams
Interpersonal development through partnership and teamwork
Students receive life-on-life coaching and are encouraged to use their knowledge to help one another in “good works,” as in 1 Timothy 6:18-19.
