Experimental Science: Biotechnology
This special topics honors course allows students to learn methods and research approaches to studying the unseen parts of the living things placed under mankind's dominion.
By learning about techniques that are used to access, reveal, and understand nucleic acids and proteins, students are empowered to begin following their own interests through focused inquiry.
In the Biotechnology section of honors high school Experimental Science, students gain hands-on experience in the following areas:
- Development of confidence in using standard molecular biology lab methods and equipment
Relating concepts of heredity and expression to biological molecules in a comprehensive way
Using computational tools to design, manipulate, and analyze living systems
Applying molecular information to studies of organism diversity, geography, and diversification
